Tijdens de New Arrivals verkiezing op het International Film Festival Rotterdam 2011 is de New Arrivals award van 1000 euro uitgereikt aan Rob Brown (UK) voor zijn korte film Silent Things.

Silent Things gaat over de vriendschap tussen een autistische jongen en meisje wiens vriendschap op de proef wordt gesteld als een onbekend meisje tussen hen in komt te staan.

De jury bestaand uit Sandra Beerends, Adina Pintillie en Dan Geesin schreef het volgende over SIlent Things in hun jury rapport:

"We have seen nine films from five countries; every film was unique in it’s use of technique
and prose to depict their story.
A diverse selection of short fiction, documantary, animation and experimental narative.
We enjoyed the images, sounds, junxtapositions, concepts and actors but we can only chose one winner.

Our preference went to a film that attempts to show and embrace the limitations of an anti-hero,
Because of the simple silent connection and the emotional impact.

The winner is Silent things by Rob Brown from the UK."
